In Goriška Brda, wine is the main thing.

Lush vines flowing like waves across hills, almost as if wanting to merge with the sun’s rays. Grapes in this region are born from a perfect combination of soil, sun and wind, which has created flysch over the millennia, a mineral-rich soil of marl and sandstone of Eocene origin, the taste of which is certainly present in locally produced wines.

The tradition of viticulture is placed in every cradle in Goriška Brda, and is nowadays kept alive by 400 local families in 43 villages. They meticulously and sustainably nurture their vines, often on very steep slopes that require a lot of manual work, but which allows for greater control over the quality of the grapes. Every glass containing the aromas of the terroir and reflecting the personality of its producer is a story in itself.

The favourable Mediterranean climate, the special soil of Brda, and the long tradition of cellaring create the wines of Brda, which are ranked among the very best in the world. Our list of superior quality wines includes internationally recognised and renowned varieties, such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Gris and Cabernet Sauvignon, but typical Brda wines are those produced from Ribolla Gialla, as well as Tocai Friulano, which is today known as Sauvignonasse.
